What is Waco Agility Group?

During the winter of 1989-90 a small group of local dog enthusiasts began meeting to help coach each other in a sport that had been gaining popularity over the past decade: dog agility. In 1995 they formally became the Waco Agility Group, more fondly known as WAG.

WAG's mission is to promote the sport of agility while improving the human-canine bond. In conjunction with this mission we also educate the public about domestic animal husbandry (with the emphasis on dogs) and promote the overall welfare of animals in our community.

Today WAG is a growing organization with a small but dedicated core membership. WAG is 100% volunteer run; all money earned by the club is reinvested in equipment and field maintenance. WAG is working on becoming an official non-profit orginization. Agility classes are held year-round. See our Class Schedules page for more info on classes. WAG is the only organization within almost a 100-mile radius to host sanctioned agility trials, and one of the very few places in that same area to teach classes.

WAG takes pride in offering high-quality, affordable agility courses. We have a standardized curriculum to assure that all students receive consistent instruction at every level. Several of our volunteer instructors commute to the Austin area weekly to train with Gerry Brown, a three-time winner of the AKC Agility National Championships with his Border Collie, Sterling, and repeat representative of the United States, including member of the World Team.

WAG also gives back to the community. We hold demos for area schools upon request, bringing in equipment and members to both perform for the children as well as share basic information about taking care of their pets. WAG also demonstrates regularly at events promoting local animal welfare organizations such as the Waco Humane Society, Fuzzy Friends and the new City of Temple Animal Shelter. When able we also support them with small monetary donations.
